Our goal in creating these guidelines is to allow Motee users to connect and find great learners and future leaders, while ensuring that everyone can use our service safely and enjoyably.

The four pillars of the Motee community are:






Motee is all about recognizing the special talents and contributions of every individual in your campus community. Use Motee to tell someone you noticed something cool they said or did, or that you appreciate the help they provided in some small or large way.


Respect creates trust, and trust is crucial to using Motee successfully to connect and share. Share things in Motees that you would want to hear from your good friends. Be nice.

As a Motee user on your college or university campus, think of Motee as a virtual classroom or campus space, where you would be bound by your campus rules and code of conduct. Represent yourself and your school responsibly on Motee, just as you would in your campus library.

Do not violate someone’s trust and privacy. Don’t expose anything someone did thinking it would not be made public. Keep in mind that Motees will be publicly viewed by others.

Do not use Motee to make someone feel bad or embarrassed. Don’t send people messages they don’t want to receive.

Do respect your peer tutor’s time and personal space. Also respect others around you while you are in a tutoring session.

Don’t ask someone else to cheat or do your work for you.

Be your authentic self, and expect others to do the same. Do not misrepresent yourself or your abilities.

In study groups sessions and study partnerships, honor your commitments and obligations. Be responsive messages from your friends and study partners.


Do not engage in discriminatory behavior or hate speech. Follow all applicable laws and do not treat others differently because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, sex, gender, gender identity, disability, or serious diseases. Insulting others on these bases is not allowed.

Never threaten to harm a person, group of people, or their property by words or physical actions.

Never use Motee to share personal information to defame, shame, or blackmail someone.

Never use Motee to intimidate someone, target someone with unwanted behavior, or engage in coercive or persistent unwanted sexual advances.

Do not say anything sexually explicit, even about yourself.

Never threaten self-harm as a way of coercing or bullying someone else.

If someone blocks you, do not contact them from another account.

Check your privacy settings to choose who can see various aspects of your profile.

Keep your password safe. Don’t share your password with other people, applications, or websites. Use a different password for every service you use.

If you experience harassment, stalking, or bullying, block the person and report it to us immediately through our Contact Form. You may also consider reporting the incident to local law enforcement.

A note on safety: If any of the safety guidelines are violated, Motee reserves the right to remove any offensive content or terminate your account. If your account is terminated, you won’t be allowed to use Motee again.

You are a hard-working, motivated college or university student. Your institution would not have accepted you if they didn’t think you were more than capable of succeeding. They also almost certainly expect that you’ll need help along the way. Most schools provide various support resources for students, including tutoring services, faculty office hours, and help rooms.

We want you to use Motee, along with the entire arsenal of tools available to you, to succeed. Motee can provide instant, effective academic and emotional support when you need it. With these resources, you can get more motivated and more engaged. Engaged learning leads to growth.
